Rodez and Lucien Le Moine
Dinner at a friend's home.
Chandon Garden Spritz – I do enjoy Apero spritz, so this was pretty much right up my alley with all the orange bitters.
Eric Rodez Cuvée des Grands Vintages, dégorgée en Janvier 2021 – good acidity and definitely good depth on the palate. My host was happy with it.
2010 Lucien Le Moine Clos de Vougeot – the nose was nice and ripe, with plenty of sweet fruit and leather. Decent acidity on the palate.
2007 BOND Matriarch - surprised that the nose was a bit reductive. Lots of dried herbs and potpourri here. Not as delicious as other bottles opened earlier.

2005 Pax The Terraces
Drinking at home.
2005 Pax Syrah Alder Springs Vineyard The Terraces - started drinking 20 minutes after decanting. Very fragrant with mint and eucalyptus, lots of cedar, coconut, with a hint of sharp alcohol on the nose. Half an hour in this was so, sooo nice, with so much fruit but now has the acidity with complexity and softness from 20 years' of maturity.

Henin and Chavost
Dinner at Lucky Ship.
Romain Henin Le Gamin du Terroir, dégorgée le 16 Septembre 2025 - this was a little warm at first so there was a bit more body than I was expecting. It drank much better than I had expected, but still too young and the palate felt too diluted.
Chavost Eurêka! - the acidity was higher, and this was nicer with a longer finish.
2002 Konsgaard Syrah - started drinking 1 hour after opening without decanting. The nose was very fragrant, with mint, eucalyptus, and woodsy notes. Drinking well as expected.

2005 Pax Kobler
Drinking at home.
2005 Pax Syrah Kobler Family Vineyard - started drinking 25 minutes after decanting. Very, very jammy, ripe, and sweet on the nose. Medium acidity on the palate, balanced by the sweetness that still remained. Still full-bodied and the tannins were kinda there. A little metallic on the nose. Almost 1 hour in this was soooo fragrant and woodsy. So nice!

Big bottles for birthdays
Dinner at Kiu's Kitchen.
2008 Dom Pérignon, en magnum - this was pretty classic, and already kinda ripe and rounded given some years of aging.
Krug Grande Cuvée, 170ème Édition, ID 221034 - surprisingly the nose was not too tasty, and given I haven't tasted thie edition for a couple of years, I was surprised that acidity here was higher than that from the Dom, although thankfully not to a level that felt sharp.
2021 Catena Zapata Chardonnay White Stones Adrianna Vineyard - crisp with good acidity on the palate and a long finish. Pretty nice.
2008 Bergström Pinot Noir de Lancellotti Vineyard, from magnum - the nose was very open and fragrant, with good hit of fruit like dark blueberries, along with some sweet vanilla oak. Very enjoyable.
2005 Marqués de Riscal Gran Reserva - lots of mint and eucalyptus on the nose, almost menthol, and very sweet and ripe on the nose. There was also tons of oak as well as some smoke.
2004 Peter Michael Les Pavots, from magnum - this was very ripe with lots of nice fruit, also minty and very fragrant with cedar notes. Still got some tannins on the palate after more than 20 years. Drinking well.
1996 Silver Oak Alexander Valley, from magnum - this was more smoky than Les Pavots, and also riper with more fruit and got that coconut butter. Drinking very nicely.
Bought as part of a mixed lot from Christie's for HKD 1,608.
2016 Pahlmeyer - still a little young and slightly punchy.
2022 Louis Latour Chassagne-Montrachet
1990 Climens - tons of saffron on the nose along with acetone, classic marmalade, apricot, and pretty nutty. Very sweet on the palate.

SQN and Pietradolce
Dinner at Estro.
2023 Pietradolce Archineri - the nose was very fragrant and tropical, showing stone fruits along with floral and flinty notes. The crisp acidity shone through.
2016 Sine Qua Non Deux Grenouilles - 36% roussanne, 29% chardonnay, 23% viognier, 9% petit manseng, 3% marsanne. Started drinking around 15 minutes after opening. Nose of apricot, a hint of honey, definitely very ripe, oxidized, and alcoholic. Showing notes like Chinese licorice, and almost reminds me of Chartreuse.
Bought from the winery for USD 137.

Rieslings and Champagnes
Dinner at Wing.
Frederic Savart L'Ouverture-Premier Cru, dégorgée en Janvier 2025 - lean as expected, with good acidity for a crisp palate, a little yeasty on the nose.
Sylvie Moreau Edition N°11, bouteille n° 0133/1300, dégorgée 16 Novembre 2019 - base year was 2004. The nose was very fragrant, with straw and sugar cane thanks to some oxidation due to aging.
1985 Maximin Grünhauser Riesling Abtsberg Kabinett - the front palate was a little short, but with the acidity on the palate the finish was reasonably long. Ripe and mature after 40 years with notes of straw alongside lemon citrus and white flowers.
Bought from Mayfair as part of a mixed lot for HKD 316.
2006 Kistler Pinot Noir Bodegas Headlands Vineyard Cuvée Elizabeth - nice with plenty of sweet fruit. so fragrant with eucalyptus notes.
Bought from the winery for USD 97.
1980 Baron Gaston Legrand Bas-Armagnac - lovely with vanilla and caramel nose.

Anything but SQN
Dinner at a friend's home with Julia and Nik Krankl as guests of honor. Theme was "Anything but Sine Qua Non (and Fingers Crossed)". Magnums were requested.
2018 Robert Faivre L'Experte - light on the palate, acidity level was OK.
2023 Agnès Paquet Chassagne-Montrachet Les Battaudes - nose was very oak-oaked with tons of vanilla.
1966 Gruaud-Larose, en double magnum - definitely got that sweet grass on the nose, with smoke and leather, too. So classic.
1994 L'Evangile, en magnum - this had a much bigger nose than the '66 Gruaud-Larose, and it was nice and smoky, with pepper and green capsicum.
2018 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett, from double magnum - there was a nice bit of sweetness on the palate balanced by the acidity. Huge nose of petrol and white flowers. So nice.
2002 Torbreck RunRig, from magnum - this was showing so beautifully, with lots of coconut butter, leather, and smoke on the nose.
1983 Auguste Clape Cornas, en magnum - tasted right after opening and decanting. Toasty nose with leather. Very smooth on the palate now, but a little less lively than expected. Not so much juicy fruit.
1995 Lafleur-Petrus, en magnum - nice and smoky on the nose, with more sweet fruit. A bit savory on the palate.
2006 Torbreck The Laird - tasted a couple of hours after opening. Very ripe and jammy on the nose, really big and so sweet on the palate. Just an amazing fruit bomb that has aged for 20 years. So nice.
1996 Cos d'Estournel, en magnum - still got the sweet fruit on the nose, as well as smoke and fragrant woodsy notes.
2006 Napa Valley Reserve, from magnum - very fragrant on the nose, without too much vanilla, but still got the lovely oak. Still so tannic after almost 20 years.
2006 Dal Forno Amarone della Valpolicella, from double magnum - this was double-decanted at 3pm yesterday... and showing lots of coconut and plenty of ripe fruit. This was such a big wine.
2014 FX Pichler Riesling Smaragd Dürnsteiner Kellerberg, from magnum - definitely got the white flowers and polyurethane, and also some flint.
2010 Alain Voge Cornas, en magnum - obviously fresher than the '83 Clape.
2011 Antinori Tignanello, from magnum - this was OK la...
2015 Eisele Vineyard Syrah - still really young after 10 years, a bit sharp and tannic.
