MNSC dinner - Mandarin Grill

MNSC dinner at the Mandarin Grill, hosted by the Ox.

1985 Moët et Chandon Cuvée Dom Pérignon - this had lots of toasty oak, walnut, burng and glazed sugar, and crème caramel nose. Very good stuff.

1986 Cos d'Estournel - still fairly tannic. Some sweet fruits on the nose. A bit acidic.

1986 Léoville Las Cases - nose was not very open initially, but gradually showed notes of marshmallow, strawberry, and coconut.

1986 Pichon Lalande - a bit vegetal, with grassy sweetness and green pepper notes.

1986 Gruaud Larose - this showed a good nose of sweet berries and smoked meats.

1994 Dominus - I was fooled into thinking that it was a classic Bordeaux. There was a slightly medicinal nose, smoky, with a bit of sweet, round tannins. Some mineral notes.

1995 Kracher Grande Cuvée Trockenbeerenauslese Nr. 12, from half bottle - this was very good, with notes of acetone and sweet honeydew melon.

1969 Leroy Echezeaux

Dinner at Paris 1930 in Taipei.

1969 Maison Leroy Echezeaux - not bad. It's not a "wow" wine but still got a pretty good nose of stewed fruits and black cherries.

Bought from 易元 for TWD 11,000.

MNSC dinner - The Lighthouse

MNSC dinner at The Lighthouse at the Fullerton in Singapore. Hosted by Dr. Poon for his 35th birthday.

Flight 1:

1982 La Conseillante
- nose of green pepper, sweet berries hidden underneath, smoke, smooth and velvety tannins. Not light but medium- to full-bodied.

1982 La Fleur-Petrus - tannins were still a little strong here.

1982 Latour à Pomerol - typical cigar smoke and pain grillé. Smooth tannins, which have been mostly shed. Really awesome and a quintessential Bordeaux.

1982 Certan de May - nose of pain grillé and sweet berries. Smooth but nose was very closed.

Flight 2:

1982 Pavie
- acidity was a bit high.

1982 Canon

1982 Cheval Blanc - sweet on the nose with some caramel. No smoke here.

1982 Figeac - nose of sweet grass and stewed prunes.

Other wines to finish:

Kistler Chardonnay (vintage and vineyard unknown) - toasty, nutty, ripe, sweet mid- and after-palate.

1983 Yquem - orange rind, pineapple, and acetone on the nose.
