MNSC Dinner - Plats

MNSC dinner at Plats.  Theme was 1987 - 1997 Californian.

1997 Beringer Cabernet Private Reserve - smooth on the palate, and became flatter.  Pretty Bordeaux-like.  As it opened up it improved somewhat.

1996 Ridge Monte Bello - nose was very sweet, with vanilla and oaky notes.  A bit acidic on the palate.

199x Fisher - don't remember the vintage or the wine... but perhaps Wedding Vineyard.  A totally sweet fruit bomb.

1995 Philip Togni - what a disappointment!  The nose was dominated by sweet grass, stewed fruits.  Not the fruit bomb I had expected.

1993 Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon Chabot Vineyard

1998 Plumpjack Reserve - pretty concentrated.

1993 Ridge Santa Cruz

Dinner at Napa Valley.

1993 Ridge Cabernet Santa Cruz Mountains - my last bottle from the case.  Very good stuff.  Powerful, fruity nose.  A hint of spicy peppers.  Full-bodied, round tannins.

Bought from Berry Brothers for HKD 368.

1992 Clerc Milon and 1993 Ridge

Dinner at Morton's in Hong Kong.

1992 Clerc Milon - smooth with good balance of tannin and acidity, but still no fruit left.  A bit of smoke.

Bought from Sinolink for HKD 308.

1993 Ridge Cabernet Santa Cruz Mountains - still very good, with enough fruity sweetness and concentration, and tannins are shedding as evidenced by sediment on the cork!

Bought from BBR for HKD 368.

93 Ridge and 81 Margaux

Dinner at brown.

1993 Ridge Cabernet Santa Cruz Mountains - served in small glasses.  Nose was pretty nice and fruity.  Good balance between acidity and smooth tannins.  Sediment was on the bottom of the cork, and lots of it!  Nice wine, though.

1981 Margaux - this was opened and decanted about an hour before we started drinking, which was OK but probably could have breathed more, as it was better after about 2 hours.  Good length.  Fairly nice, fruity nose.  Very velvety tannins which were mostly shed.  Lots of fine sediment at the bottom.  My arm was sore from carefully decanting it.  Quite a smooth, yummy wine.

1993 Ridge Santa Cruz

1993 Ridge Santa Cruz Cabernet - drank at home.  It wasn't as fruity as I remembered, but perhaps because it was just too warm.  But still nice with the body... not too tannic.  Enoyable.  Bought from Berry Bros for HKD 368.
