1943 trio
Dinner at Ya Ge in Taipei.
1943 Cheval Blanc, Eschenauer bottling - level was mid- to low-shoulder, much worse than another bottle opened in 2017. Nose was still very fragrant, with leather, animal notes, along with rose petals and other floral notes. Fairly light in terms of body once the sediment is discounted, but the fragrance was very lovely.
1943 Mouton-Rothschild, from Sotheby's Sale May 2016, Wines from the Cellars of William I. Koch - a bit more leather on the nose, minty, definitely more cigar notes, and certainly tastes like a Pauillac. Condition was still fairly good after nearly 80 years.
1943 Sisqueille Rivesaltes, mis en bouteille 2012 - kinda nutty, a little coffee, almost, and certainly honey.

Wines at Smyth
Dinner at Smyth in Chicago.
Charles Heidsieck Rosé Réserve
2009 Añada de Baladiña - thanks to 10 years' of aging, this was not at all fruity on the nose, but it was ripe on the palate.
Ichinokura Junmai Daiginjo Kuranohana (一ノ蔵 純米大吟醸 蔵の華) - lots of banana in the nose, which was also a little sharp and showing slight fermented. Palate was middle of the road, neither too sweet nor too dry.
2005 Huet Vouvray Sec Le Mont - very toasty, a bit of green apple. Good acidity.
2014 Dublère Chablis Bougros - the nose was really weird, not like a chard at all... but rather more like pear cidre.
2012 Bruno Clair Vosne Romanée Les Champs Perdrix - WOW! This was really sweet on the nose, with vanilla and coconut butter.
Billecart-Salmon Demi-Sec - flinty with a hint of anise. Sweet-ish on the palate.
1979 l'Archiviste Rivesaltes, mis en bouteille le Decembre 2018 - pretty savory.

1940 Cheval Blanc
Dinner at STAY in Taipei.
1940 Cheval Blanc - very light in color... almost fading to a rosé... with LOTS of sediment here. There was still some fruit here, a little prune, leather, animal, and smoked meats. The nose improved with aeration in the bottle, and after one hour I even detected some savory minerals. The wine drank very nicely, and even after almost 3 hours the wine had not faded. Fantastic stuff!
1940 Sisqueille Rivesaltes - I brought the leftover from last night and finished it off, offering some to the chefs at the end of the meal. Nose has softened up a little, but the alcohol was still a little sharp. Still got the marmalade, nutty, and apricot notes.
